Microneedling Treatments

More about our Microneedling Treatments

Microneedling is a gentle collagen induction therapy that renews your skin from within. By stimulating your skin’s natural collagen and elastin production, microneedling gradually smooths uneven texture, softens the appearance of acne scarring, and brings back that healthy, lit-from-within glow. It’s one of the most effective ways to refresh tired skin without surgery or significant downtime – and the results improve in the weeks after each session.

Whether you’re addressing early signs of ageing or simply want a fresher, more even complexion, microneedling is a versatile treatment that works beautifully on its own or paired with our other advanced facials.

If you live in Caterham, South Croydon, Whyteleafe, Warlingham or anywhere across the wider CR3 area, you can book your microneedling treatment at our Caterham clinic.

  • Smooths uneven skin tone and texture
  • Softens the appearance of acne scarring
  • Refreshes fine lines for a brighter, more rejuvenated look.

  • Suitable for most adult skin types and tones — and can be used anywhere on the body, including stretch marks and scarring
  • Personalised care from Sadie at Opulent Aesthetics, a trusted Caterham clinic just minutes from the station

Microneedling improves skin quality regardless of condition but is more noticeable in those with conditions like acne, scarring, or an uneven skin complexion. Microneedling treatments are a great way to reverse early signs of ageing and to ensure your skin stays young and fresh for longer.

Microneedling treatments can be applied to most parts of the body.  It is most commonly applied to the facial areas as an effective anti-ageing treatment or to target specific skin concerns such as pigmentation or acne scarring.

It can also be used to treat areas where there is scarring from stretch marks, particularly after pregnancy or rapid weight loss.

What is Microneedling and How Does It Work

Microneedling – also known as collagen induction therapy – is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates collagen production, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, evens skin complexion, boosts skin texture and improves product absorption. It’s a great way to improve your skin quality naturally.

Microneedling works by triggering your skin’s natural healing process to stimulate collagen production. It achieves this through tiny punctures in the top layer of your skin using a professional device with fine needles. This process is often combined with skin boosters because the punctures create absorption channels, allowing topical products to travel deeper and work more effectively in your skin, resulting in a healthier, smoother and more even skin complexion.

Microneedling is considered a minimally invasive treatment. However, as it is natural and works by creating micro-traumas, it may take a few days for the result to be fully appreciated.

You will begin to notice a difference as soon as the redness subsides, which can take a few hours or days, and your skin quality will continue to improve as your body heals.

How long do the results last?

This is dependent on several factors including your current skin condition, lifestyle factors like sun exposure and other things your skin endures i,e. chlorine from swimming, sweat from excessive exercise, cold winds, etc.

Genetics also play a role. However, the benefits can be expected to last between 1-3 months. Frequent treatments improve skin quality over time, ensuring that the results are more pronounced and last longer.

After a consultation where your skin concern is analysed by Sadie, your face will be cleansed thoroughly, and then the microneedling treatment will begin. It will involve passing a device containing several microneedles over the area being treated, causing micro-punctures.

If you are including skin boosters to your treatment, they will be applied before and after microneedling. After the skin boosters have been fully absorbed, a medical grade moisturiser will be applied along with and an SPF cream to grant you protection from the sun.

This depends on the size of the area being treated, but typically 30-45 minutes.

Yes, microneedling is safe when applied by a qualified professional.

Microneedling is not considered a harsh or invasive treatment, but we understand that everyone has a different threshold for physical and psychological discomfort. Microneedling feels like tiny needle pricks and while it is slightly uncomfortable, the majority of customers say it’s bearable.

How long do I need to recover?

Microneedling is considered a zero-downtime procedure because you can continue with your daily activities immediately after treatment. You may experience redness, mild bleeding, dry and flaky skin from scabbing, but this is normal and will fade in a matter of hours or days.

During the early hours or days following treatment, we recommend avoiding exposure to anything that may compromise your skin, including the gym, swimming, or crowded places.

If you have broken or active skin conditions, or an infection, you should avoid this treatment until your symptoms or condition subsides.

What to Expect at Your Caterham Microneedling Appointment

After a consultation where your skin concerns are analysed by Sadie, your face will be cleansed thoroughly, and then the microneedling treatment will begin. It involves passing a device containing several microneedles over the area being treated, causing micro-punctures.

Every microneedling session at Opulent Aesthetics includes a  skin booster targeted to the concern we’re addressing — whether that’s hydration, brightening, or smoothing acne scarring. The boosters are applied before and after the microneedling itself so the active ingredients absorb deeply into the freshly opened channels. We finish with medical-grade LED to calm the skin and lock in the benefits, followed by SPF to protect you from the sun.

Most sessions take 60-90 minutes from start to finish. Discomfort is minimal; most clients describe a light pricking sensation. You may leave the clinic with only light redness that settles within a few hours.

What to Expect at Your Caterham Microneedling Appointment

You’ll start to see results gradually over the weeks after your microneedling treatment, as fresh collagen forms beneath the surface. Some people see noticeable improvements in skin texture and tone after the first session, with the full effect appearing across two to three months.

For longer-lasting results, we usually recommend a course of 4-6 sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with results typically lasting around six months. Occasional top-ups help maintain that smooth, rejuvenated look.

Microneedling vs. Other Skin Treatments

Microneedling and anti-wrinkle treatment work in very different ways.

Microneedling builds collagen and improves overall skin texture, while anti-wrinkle treatments soften the look of expression lines by relaxing the muscles beneath them. Many clients combine both for a fuller refresh, and we’ll help you decide what suits your goals during a consultation.

Laser treatments are another route for skin rejuvenation, using light energy rather than fine needles. We don’t offer laser at Opulent Aesthetics – we focus on microneedling and complementary advanced facials such as dermaplaning and a skin peel for visibly smoother, fresher skin. For deeper hydration and skin quality, skin boosters pair beautifully with a microneedling course.

Microneedling FAQs

For most adults, yes. Microneedling delivers gradual, natural-looking improvements in skin texture, tone and the appearance of acne scarring – without surgery or significant downtime. Clients across Caterham regularly tell us it’s the treatment that’s made the biggest difference to their skin.

Yes, microneedling is suitable across adult ages, including 50+. As people age, collagen production slows, so the gentle stimulation microneedling provides is especially helpful for restoring firmness and softening fine lines.

There isn’t a fixed age. Most clients start when they want to address a specific skin goal (ie., early prevention, smoother skin texture, or softening acne scarring). We will talk you through whether microneedling is the right fit during your consultation.

The main thing to expect is short-lived redness for a few hours to a couple of days, sometimes with mild flaking as the skin renews. Most people are back to normal quickly and find the trade-off well worth the results.

They do different things. Microneedling builds collagen and refines overall skin texture, while anti-wrinkle treatments relax the muscle movement that creates expression lines. Many clients use both.

Results show gradually over the weeks after treatment as your skin produces fresh collagen, and typically last around six months. For the best, longer-lasting results, we usually recommend a course of four to six sessions, with occasional top-ups to maintain your glow.

Neither is universally “better” because each has different approaches. Microneedling works with your skin’s own collagen response, while laser treatments use light energy. Opulent Aesthetics specialises in microneedling and other advanced facials rather than laser.
